Question, what is the best method to contact camp.
Answer, email is best. On our web site we have a “Contact us” link toward the bottom as you scroll down. There you may submit your email. All emails done this way should go directly to a full time staff members phone. The land line telephone is not staffed 24/7, we have an answering machine and will return your call as soon as possible.
Question, is this a overnight camp?
Answer, Yes, it is from Monday morning until Friday afternoon.
Question, what time is drop off/ cabin assignment Monday morning?
Answer, Official time is 9am, some people get here early.
Question, what time is pick up?
Answer, Friday afternoon at 12pm (don’t be late)
Question, can my child be picked up early for vacations, etc.
Answer, yes, we must be notified during or before Monday registration.
Question, can my child “come and go” for things likes sports and other activities?
Answer, No, we have tried this in the past and it simply doesn’t work.
Question, does my child have to meet the age requirement for their week of camp.
Answer, yes, they must meet the age requirement before or during the week they are scheduled to come.
Question, Is my child allowed to have a cell phone?
Answer, No, could you imagine 110 children at camp with cell phones.
Question, can I talk to my child while at camp?
Answer, emergency phone calls only. Again, could you imagine 110 children all wanting to use the phone.
Question, how will I know if my child is ok?
Answer, we will call you with any concern we have. We respect the relationship and trust given us and have no desire to violate that relationship.
Question, what if my child wants to come home?
Answer, we will give moderate efforts in redirecting the child’s attention to the camp experience. If these efforts don’t work we will call you and allow you and your child to make the decision. We and the child benefit in no way from them being here when they aren’t able to enjoy camp. (maybe next year)
Question, do I receive a refund if my child leaves early?
Answer, no, the necessary provisions and arrangements were made before their arrival.
Question, can I come visit my child?
Answer, no, there are two main reasons why, 1. Parental rights and temporary protective orders. 2. Once children see their parents they are reminded of home and leave.
Question, can I send mail?
Answer, yes, no food items, food is not allowed in the cabins due to ants. Other mail encouraged, please remember your child is here from Monday- Friday, account for the delay in mailing.
Question, can someone other than myself drop off and pickup my child?
Answer, yes, whoever picks the child up MUST be on the pickup roster. This roster will be available during sign in on Monday morning.
Question, How is my child’s medication handled?
Answer, all medication (except inhaler) is kept under a two lock system. The medication (along with prescription) will be turned in Monday morning during registration at the nurses station. Over the counter medications must also be turned in. A child must be able to confirm and self administer medications. Camp staff will supervise the medications.
Question, is there a nurse on premises at all times?
Answer, no, although we do have multiple registered nurses that are here on grounds at different times, they are not here 24 hours a day. We are within one mile of one of our local med stations and have a good working relationship with the emergency professionals. All of our staff must undergo CPR training and first aid training.
Question, do you have a certified lifeguard?
Answer, yes, our lifeguards are certified through either, YMCA or American Red Cross.
Question, how safe are the horses?
Answer, Our horses are here year round and have constant training. Our wranglers are part of our year round staff. As with any animal, you can never count out an incident but, we work diligently to see our horses are as safe as possible. Your child will spend their first day of horse activity inside the corral only. This is to ensure they are comfortable on the back of a horse. The following days they will ride trails by a designated schedule.
Question, where do you get your counselors?
Answer, we are in constant contact with local youth pastors and youth groups. Beginning in January a team of camp staff begins visiting youth groups as they meet in their churches. From these visits we will invite people to apply. We also visit local colleges. A person must fill out an application and have two reference letters one of which must be from a church leader. (no reference letter can be from a family member)
Question, are background checks done?
Answer, yes, all adult staff (18 or older) must successfully pass a background check. ***Juvenile records are unavailable by law***
Question, does your staff undergo training?
Answer, yes, all staff must complete 2 days of training. The training includes but is not limited to, all of camps policies/procedure, pool safety, horse safety, activity safety, basic kitchen safety, missing person, severe weather, active shooter, first aid, sexual, physical and emotional abuse, proper definition of “bullying” how to spot and stop bullying.
Question, will I be able to meet my child’s counselor?
Answer, yes, on Monday morning your child will be assigned to a “Crew” at that time their counselor will be available.
Question, can I pick the cabin for my child?
Answer, cabin assignments are done on a first come first serve basis as you move through the registration line.
Question, can a group of friends be placed together?
Answer, yes, you will need to stay together as a group in the registration line. Your cabin assignment my vary depending upon size of group. ***history has shown us that “grouping” may not always work out. Have a frank conversation with the group about behavior and respect. If we have issues with the group during the week we will separate them and send home if need be***
Question, can I change weeks after I have registered?
Answer, yes, if there is availability, please request this via email.
Question, who normally demonstrates the most anxiety, parent or child?
Answer, parent, the child is usually eager and looking forward to “summer camp”.
Question, do you have any advise to emotionally prepare for camp?
Answer, yes, 1. Realize this is more than a week of camp, this is a time for them to experience something new and exciting for themselves (make it about them, not about you). 2. Don’t say things like “now if you get homesick you just call me and I’ll come get you”. We are going to call you if they get homesick and let you guys work that out. 3. Tell them what a wonderful time it will be and how proud you are of them for experiencing something new. 4. Trust that we have been doing this since 1961. We are going to do our best to help them have a wonderful life changing experience. 4. Talk to other parents that have sent kids to camp. 5. Remember we nor the child benefit from a negative experience and we will help in anyway we can.
